Science

Science, a curriculum subject, is approached in a very exciting and innovative way in Shountrade National School.  We promote a hands-on, activity based approach to the subject in all classrooms.  We develop creativity and inquisitiveness.  We develop a scientific approach to solving problems.

We have also gone on many field trips:- Cork Lifetime LAB, Lahinch Sea World, Guided Discovery on Sea Shore, Aughinish Nature Reserve, and UL Science and Engineering Fair.

We have participated in Discover Primary Science since 2005 and we have, as a school, achieved an Award of Excellence in Maths and Science each year of our participation.

The project involved submitting a log with activities from Discover Primary Science curriculum, a visit to a science centre, attending and hosting a science event and showing that maths was integrated with science throughout the project.

The whole school participated in the project and overall it was a wonderful success.  Who knows maybe we are awakening a love for a subject that will produce great inventors, researchers and many other scientists for the future.
